Privacy Policy

Last updated: October 2026

1. Overview

Fuel Tracker is engineered with a privacy-first, offline-first architecture. We believe your personal vehicle logs, travel habits, and financial expenditures belong exclusively to you. This Privacy Policy details how data is handled across both local usage and optional cloud-synchronization modes.

2. Data Storage Methods

Local-Only Mode (Default / Unauthenticated)

When you use Fuel Tracker without signing into an account, no personal data or vehicle records are sent to our servers. All refueling logs (date, odometer reading, fuel volume, cost), maintenance records (service category, cost, odometer, notes), and theme preferences are saved solely within your device's web browser using localStorage.

Cloud Sync Mode (Optional / Authenticated)

If you choose to register an account to sync your vehicle records across multiple devices, the following data is processed and stored:

  • Account Credentials: Your email address and securely hashed password, managed via Google Firebase Authentication.
  • Vehicle Logs: Your refueling entries and maintenance records, stored in a secure Google Cloud Firestore database under your isolated, authenticated user account ID.

3. How Your Information Is Used

We use your information exclusively to provide the core services of the application:

  • Calculating fuel economy metrics, average mileage, latest trip mileage, and running costs.
  • Generating interactive charts showing your fuel efficiency and fuel cost trends over time.
  • Calculating maintenance intervals and displaying upcoming service reminder alerts.
  • Synchronizing records seamlessly between your logged-in mobile and desktop devices.

We do not use your vehicle data for profiling, targeted advertising, behavioral marketing, or automated decision-making.

4. Third-Party Services and Data Sharing

We never sell, rent, monetize, or trade your personal information or vehicle logs to third parties. We do not integrate third-party ad networks or surveillance trackers.

For users who opt into Cloud Sync, backend hosting, user authentication, and real-time database persistence are provided by Google Cloud Platform / Firebase. Google processes this information in accordance with their industry-standard security and compliance standards.

5. Data Ownership, Export, and Deletion

You maintain full ownership of your data at all times:

  • Data Export: You can export your entire refueling history to a portable CSV file at any moment directly from the application interface.
  • Data Deletion: You can delete any individual refueling or maintenance entry at any time. When deleted, it is immediately removed from your local storage and synchronized database.
  • Clearing Local Data: Clearing your browser's site data or cache permanently wipes all local records.

6. Security

Communications with cloud sync servers are encrypted using modern Transport Layer Security (TLS/HTTPS). Stored database records are protected by Firestore security rules that strictly ensure users can only view and modify their own records.

7. Changes to This Policy

We may occasionally update this Privacy Policy to reflect app enhancements or legal requirements. Any modifications will be posted directly to this page with an updated revision date.

8. Contact Us
